Paper Wasps are the large wasps that fly with their legs hanging down as they fly and are not very fast. Those can sting and bite multiple times but are not as aggressive as the Yellow Jackets which are known for many workers attacking at the same time and are easily agitated when feeling vibrations near by. The Prairie Yellow Jacket is the worst offender of all. They are known for living in the dirt. Whatever you do, don’t try to eradicate those by yourselves. They are so aggressive that they will exit their nests in large numbers and you’ll know very quickly when you cross their nests while walking near them.

TREATMENT

Each type of wasp or yellowjacket requires a certain treatment. We use various methods depending on the type of insect. While removing the nests is important on the premises, there is no prevention with the exception of monthly services to assess and spray each time. Some use traps for Yellow Jackets, but they are not very useful; Yellow Jackets are very smart. Unless you kill the queens, the nest will not be eliminated. When queens recognize that their workers are not returning, they will produce even more workers than normal. Also, wasps very seldom will go into a trap. 

PREVENTION

As of right now, there exists no wasp traps that are effective for prevention. The best method is a monthly scheduled program for pest control.
